HOW TO INSTALL A SHOWER SCREEN

Shower screens are a must-have for any bathroom renovation or update. Shower screens can dramatically enhance the look of your bathroom. They add a sleek and modern touch, while keeping water in the shower area. This guide will walk you through DIY shower screen installation for Melbourne homes.

It’s important to choose a shower screen that is compatible with the measurements and layout of your bathroom. While shopping, consider the architectural features of your Melbourne house.

Measure twice, cut once

Measure the shower area. Start by measuring your shower area.

For a successful installation of a shower screen, it is important to measure accurately. The height and width on each side should be measured. Double-check and write down these measurements. “Measure twice, cut only once” is a saying we all know.

When deciding the final position of your shower, remember to take into account other items such as windows, toilets and vanities in your bathroom. This will allow you to easily access the shower. It’s not worth stepping out of the bath and tripping on the toilet, because the door was placed the wrong way, or the door smashed against the taps and shower head.

You will need to ensure that you have enough space in your bathroom for a shower screen. Here are some tips for calculating the size of your new shower screen

The New Shower Screen is Here

After you have selected and measured the shower screen, it is time to prepare the installation area. It involves removing the old frame or panel, cleaning any debris, making sure moisture-proofing has been installed, and preparing for new screen installation. Install your new shower screen once it has arrived. To assemble your screen, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Most screens require drilling and cutting to be installed.

Drilling is required for the installation of hinges and handles on framed screens, as well as holes in fixed panels.

Make sure you have all the tools necessary.

These include:

  • Caulking gun
  • Silicon
  • Drill
  • Marking pen or pencil
  • Gloves
  • Hammer
  • Allen/Hex key
  • Impact driver
  • Large spirit level
  • Measurement tape
  • Safety glasses
  • Trimming knife
  • Pop rivet gun
  • Diamond drill bit for ceramic tile
  • Screwdriver.
  • If you have glass lifting gloves, use them.

Mark the profile where the shower screen is to be placed.

If you are installing a shower door, make sure it is installed straight. An uneven installation may cause the door to leak, or even break over time.

Kwik Glass will Install the profiles after you have marked and checked everything. You can drill holes in the areas you’ve marked, and then secure the profiles on the wall.

Your shower screen may be attached to the wall using chanelling

Fix the shower screen metal channels to the wall

Mark the locations where the metal channels will be installed for the shower screen using a spirit-level. Start your lines at the floor and ensure that the screen is positioned correctly within the lip on the shower base. Then, align the steel channels on the lines you marked and secure them. For added stability, reinforce the screws when attaching to plasterboard or tiles.

Install the shower screen after securing the profile. This step may require assistance depending on the type and size of shower screen.

Install the first panel in the wall channel. Make sure it’s level. Mark a vertical line at the point where the panel will align with the channel. While inside the shower, position the panel securely. Drill three to four holes in the channel. Make sure they are aligned with the panel frame. Make a hole at the top of the panel, another near the bottom and one or two in the middle. Pop rivets are used to secure the panel firmly in place once it is completed.

You are now ready to slide the second panel in place and connect it seamlessly with the first. As before, ensure that the panel is level and firmly secured within the wall channel. After this, screw the handle into the holes pre-drilled on the door.

If your shower screen is attached with brackets

Shower screens with fixed panels, frameless or over the bath.

Use a 6mm ceramic bit to drill the holes marked. Drill to a 30mm depth using a slow speed and even pressure. Insert plugs of plastic into each hole, and trim the excess with a utility blade. The brackets should be securely fastened using the screws. After that, loosen the grub screw.

Rubber blocks should be cut to 6mm thickness and placed in front of brackets to support the glass. The panel should be placed on the brackets for the floor, then slid into the brackets for the wall. Secure the grub screw with an Allen key. TIP Glass-lifting Gloves are essential.

Verify that the hinge panel aligns with the door panel by comparing the width of the opening to the panel. Check that the gap between the wall and the panel does not exceed 12mm. Secure the screws with an Allen key. TIP Place rubber blocks over the brackets for a uniform gap.
